Derrick Platero, MS student co-advised by Dr. Nandita Gaur and Dr. Matt Levi, was selected as a Bridge Scholar for the upcoming 2021 ASA, CSSA, SSSA International Annual Meeting.

The Bridge Scholars, a collaboration between the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) and ASA, CSSA and SSSA, seeks to promote cross-societal collaboration and scientific excellence through diverse scientific networking and connections. The program, funded by the Agronomic Science Foundation, is providing funding for up to five SACNAS graduate students who will be awarded:

  • Fully funded registration and abstract fee to the 2021 ASA-CSSA-SSSA Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah November 7-10th
  • NEW – Participation in the Graduate Student Leadership Conference (November 6-7-prior to the Annual Meeting) with registration and additional hotel accommodation included
  • A one-year membership to ASA-CSSA-SSSA
  • Financial aid for travel to the Annual Meeting, consisting of paid lodging and a $500 travel scholarship
  • 1:1 Mentorship with esteemed scientists from a range of career disciplines
  • Access to professional development workshops, scientific sessions, and corporation connections, and other scholarship opportunities
